Don't update your Joomla! install using Installatron. Installatron is a handy tool for installing and maybe even backing it up, but it's not a tool for updating Joomla! sites. That's what this Maintenance Monday takes a look at.

  • Tim Davis hosts Maintenance Monday Live Stream #015 on YouTube.
    - He advises against updating Joomla sites using Installatron.
    - Installatron is a tool available in cPanel for easy software installation, including Joomla.
    - While Installatron is good for installing Joomla, it's not recommended for updates.
    - Installatron only updates the Joomla core, not third-party extensions.
    - Third-party extensions often need updates to remain compatible with the latest Joomla versions.
    - Tim recommends using the core Joomla updater for Joomla updates and extensions.
    - He also recommends using Akeeba for backups and site transfers.
    - Another recommended tool is myJoomla.com, which provides guidance and checks during updates.
    - Tim emphasizes the importance of keeping backups and understanding Joomla updates.
    - He mentions a contest for a one-month membership to myJoomla.com.
    - Tim suggests checking out myJoomla.com for a free site audit and avoiding frustration in Joomla site management.
    - The video includes a discussion about the white screen of death and the challenges of updating Joomla sites.
