Even though you are using #Joomla, attack bots looking for WordPress vulnerabilities are still trying to hack your web hosting account. These can be simply removed from the equation by redirecting them to a dummy page. That's what this Maintenance Monday takes a look at.

  • This is a YouTube livestream titled "Protect Joomla Install by Redirecting WordPress Attack Bots 🛠 Maintenance Monday Live Stream #014."
    - The host is Tim Davis, and he talks about a topic related to protecting Joomla websites from WordPress attack bots.
    - Tim mentions that WordPress attack bots can affect Joomla sites in various ways.
    - These bots trigger the Joomla 404 mechanism when they attack, causing unnecessary resource usage.
    - They don't show up in tracking tools for broken URLs on Joomla sites, making it harder to monitor their activity.
    - Depending on Google Analytics setup, these bot calls to non-existent pages can skew website traffic data.
    - Tim demonstrates how to redirect WordPress attack bot URLs to a blank HTML page to reduce resource usage and maintain Joomla site efficiency.
    - He explains creating a "no thanks" HTML file and adding a rewrite rule to the .htaccess file to achieve this.
    - Tim also mentions having multiple redirect rules for different WP-related URLs.
    - A viewer suggests using Joomla's core redirect component if not using sh404sef for redirecting.
    - Tim considers this suggestion but doesn't demonstrate it in the current livestream.
